Shropshire Advanced Motorists attended Shrewsbury Square on Saturday 20th with its Mobile Display Unit

The Shropshire Group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (SGIAM) had its mobile display unit on the town square in Shrewsbury this Saturday [20th September 2008].

Members of the SGIAM were on hand throughout the day to talk to any motorists interested in taking their driving skills to a higher level.

Drivers had the opportunity to talk to some of the group's most senior observers who run the organisation's certificated Skill for Life advanced driving course.

Shropshire's Chief Observer, John Morris, and Senior Observer, Jason Stokes, were available to answer questions in the morning, whilst Senior Observer Les Bell was on hand with SGIAM colleagues in the afternoon.

Jason Stokes, comments: “People's perception of advanced driving and advanced motorists is that we're somehow all stuffy old stick in the muds who sedately pootle along, feeding the wheel, and annoy other drivers. Nothing could be further from the truth.

“SGIAM members, like me, are people who just love driving and want to get the best out of their cars and the driving experience. The key thing to understand is that being an advanced motorist helps you do just that. The course is great fun to do and it's quite amazing how much more you get out of your driving having done it.”

The display unit was busy throughout the day with a keen interest from drivers of all types and ages. Current members also took the opportunity to talk to the group's observers and committee members, and others who had thought about a course seized the opportunity and signed up for the next course.

The SGIAMs next Skill for Life Advanced Motorist Course enrolment evening is on Tuesday 11th November. The SGIAM is accepting applications already for this course as it is the last enrolment evening before the winter break.
